The Gustav Prayer

“A Storm of God”

Mark 4.35-41

As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let's cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don't you care that we're going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”  The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

Dear Lord, hear this cry from my heart for your children in this eruption of the century. We pray for the souls of every woman, man and child that is in the path of the storm that is approaching the borders of the United States. We pray that people will be safe and the proper things will remain in place to keep them out of harms way. We pray that people will come to know God during this traumatic storm. Thank you Lord for the provisions that have been made available. Thank you for the vehicles that have been put in place to handle the relocation of people in New Orleans and the gulf region. Thank for the brave volunteers and professional worker's that will remain in the storm to help others. Oh winds of God, whisper to each soul that is misplaced, lead them, show the lost ones the path to a higher ground. We pray for the souls that will leave without notice. We belong to you dear God, We belong to You. You are the potter and we are the clay. It is Your will that we fall humble too. When the water settles, send forth the Holy Spirit to minister to the second chance of life that remains. In Jesus Name, Amen . www.purpleark.org
